Above and beyond the call of duty

SSSR Na StroikeAmazing how some students go above and beyond the call of duty. Today one came in to give the class a presentation on Alexander Rodchenko and Varvara Stepanova. Then she pulled out some original copies of the SSSR Na Stroike from the 1930s! Apparently she had managed to convince some librarian about how important it is to show the original magazines to other students.

“Well, we don’t really lend these to anyone. But if you’re giving a presentation on them… sure, take them.” 😀

I’m used to handling old documents in collections and libraries in Britain. But in Finland the original artefacts are usually kept safely inside glass cases and hidden in storages where only librarians and a handful of researchers are allowed to touch them.

Thank you, Library of the Labour Movement, Helsinki!
