Teaching

I have been teaching in universities since 2007 in the United Kingdom, Germany, and Finland. I have held both lecture series and studio classes (hands-on learning), as well as online courses. In my classes I have had young people from all over the world as well as mature students. I have held courses for both undergraduates and postgraduates. I have also been a supervisor in undergraduate and postgraduate thesis/dissertation projects.

While I thoroughly like all teaching, I enjoy most teaching theoretical topics, research methods, history etc. I have a talent for making difficult things understandable to students. They call my classes fun, engaging and helpful. Some of the subjects I have taught include:

  • Communication theory
  • Design theory
  • Media communication
  • Semiotics
  • Introduction to visual culture
  • History of visual communication
  • History of typography
  • Typography
  • Graphic design
  • Newspaper design
  • Infographic design
  • Research methods
  • Web & print publishing for journalists
  • Social media for designers and journalists
  • Branding & design management
  • Advertising, marketing, and media
  • Social media marketing

Training, workshops, and consulting

I also run workshops and training sessions for a range of clients. For example, the images below are from a workshop on information graphics which was a part of the TypeTalks3 conference in Brno.

For corporate clients I offer training and sparring sessions in various areas of visual communication, design, and branding. For example, I have advised newspapers in their redesign process, and product design & cosmetics companies on branding and design issues.

If you are interested in a workshop, training sessions, or consulting, contact me directly. We can then discuss what you need and how I can help. If you need something which I cannot provide, I will guide you to the right person.
